Kuraray will present its GENESTAR™ PA9T high-performance polyamide family at The Battery Show Europe in Stuttgart from June 9–11, 2026. The global specialty chemicals company, headquartered in Japan, says the material is designed to address six key challenge areas in modern EV battery engineering: overheating under fast-charging conditions, aggressive coolant resistance, high-voltage safety in 800V to 1000V architectures, dimensional stability, cooling system cleanliness, and manufacturability at scale. For battery developers working on next-generation pack designs, the company says GENESTAR™ PA9T addresses real engineering constraints across the full system.
GENESTAR™ PA9T is designed to support EV battery thermal management and coolant resistance
Kuraray says GENESTAR™ PA9T retains its mechanical stability over a wide temperature range, making it suitable for hotspot-adjacent components where standard polymers lose structural integrity under fast-charging thermal loads. Beyond heat, the company states the material offers high chemical resistance to aggressive cooling fluids and excellent hydrolysis resistance even at elevated temperatures, supporting long-term reliability in battery cooling circuits. Kuraray also states that the material produces minimal leaching effects from coolants, which it says increases system cleanliness and enhances the reliability of the cooling circuit and the wider EV battery.
High-voltage battery architecture demands drive GENESTAR™ PA9T development
Kuraray positions GENESTAR™ PA9T for battery architectures operating at 800 to 1000 volts, where the company says the material offers outstanding electrical insulation properties. Its Comparative Tracking Index far exceeds conventional values, Kuraray says, enabling the production of compact and lightweight high-voltage components. The company identifies preventing leakage currents as a critical safety factor in these designs and says the material’s tracking resistance performance directly addresses that requirement.
Dimensional stability is a further claimed advantage. Kuraray states that moisture absorption in GENESTAR™ PA9T is among the lowest of any high-temperature-resistant polyamide, resulting in predictable part geometry under hot and humid operating conditions.
Processability supports high-volume EV battery component production
Kuraray says the material processes well through both injection molding and extrusion, and also exhibits good laser weldability. The company says this supports the assembly of complex, highly integrated components with thin walls and intricate geometries at production scale. As gigafactory output ramps and component integration requirements grow, processability is increasingly a factor in materials selection for EV battery programmes.
