Overview


Samsung SDI Battery Systems is hiring a Supplier Quality Engineer to lead supplier qualification, audits, and quality improvement for mechanical components (metal and plastic) supporting its lithium-ion battery systems for electric and hybrid vehicles. Based at the company’s technology centre in Kalsdorf bei Graz, the role covers the full APQP-to-PPAP lifecycle for buy parts, working closely with Purchasing, Engineering, and Production teams. It’s a highly technical, travel-intensive position requiring deep expertise in casting, metal stamping, injection moulding, and related manufacturing processes, alongside formal automotive quality certifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead supplier qualification, audits, process assessments, and capability evaluations
  • Investigate supplier quality issues and drive quality improvements at suppliers
  • Evaluate feasibility studies from suppliers
  • Work closely with Purchasing, Engineering, and Production teams
  • Execute APQP for buy parts based on combined supplier and component risk level
  • Plan, execute, and approve PSO and PPAP
  • Handle internal reporting and support programme management and quality management for external reporting
  • Manage PPAP approval initiation and alignment between SDI manufacturing plants

Requirements


Essential: a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, or several years of production work experience (e.g. welding, deep drawing, injection moulding, measuring process knowledge) with a high school diploma; a minimum of 5 years’ experience in automotive Supplier Quality, Manufacturing Quality, or Quality Engineering; a VDA 6.3 auditor certificate and solid expertise in IATF 16949; proficiency in AIAG core tools (PPAP, APQP, Control Plans, FMEA, MSA, SPC) and problem-solving tools (8D, Six Sigma); advanced knowledge of casting, metal stamping, injection moulding, extrusion, and TIM manufacturing processes; knowledge of machining, welding, heat treatment, and surface finishing processes; business-fluent English; self-motivated with strong communication skills and social competence; willingness to travel 70% of labour time depending on project phase, including overseas business trips.
Desirable: German language skills.
