Sr. Engineering Technician III, Vehicle Engineering Labs

Overview

Rivian is hiring a Senior Engineering Technician to support operations and maintenance of its Vehicle Engineering Labs testing facilities in Irvine. The role combines hands-on facility upkeep with instrumentation installation on prototype vehicles, daily test execution support, and customer coordination across multiple facilities. It suits a technician with strong automotive or aerospace testing experience who can troubleshoot climate chamber and chassis dynamometer systems and drive continuous improvement in testing and maintenance processes. Fabrication, wiring, and building control system experience are all central to the role.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of testing facilities
• Develop, document, and implement testing and maintenance procedures in compliance with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) requirements
• Install instrumentation, test equipment, and other components on prototype vehicles in accordance with engineering specifications, standards, and test procedures
• Provide daily operational and test execution support across multiple facilities
• Plan and execute preventive maintenance activities

Requirements

Essential: 2-5+ years of automotive- or aerospace-related testing experience; strong technical and mechanical aptitude; fabrication, wiring, and building control system troubleshooting experience; a proven track record of problem-solving and independent root cause analysis; excellent communication and teamwork skills; ability to produce clear, organised, and timely documentation; a team-oriented mindset; strong interest in automotive technology; ability to work independently.
Desirable: experience operating and maintaining climate chamber and chassis dynamometer facilities; technical and mechanical aptitude with automotive and electrified powertrain vehicles.
